About Kadha Films

KADHA—meaning "story" in Malayalam—was founded in 2022 with a clear vision: to create the stories I longed to tell. My journey in cinema began at age 17 in a small village in Kerala, eventually taking me to Mumbai—the heart of the Indian film industry—and later to the United States.

Over the years, I've worked as a director, producer, editor, writer, sound recordist, and production manager. These varied roles gave me an intimate understanding of every stage of filmmaking—from idea germination and writing through pre-production, production, and post-production. Across this journey, I realized that if I truly wanted to make films that stood the test of time and broke free from industry conventions, I needed to take matters into my own hands.

I wrote many scripts that were praised by my peers, but most remained confined to the page. Frustrated, I decided to produce my first film under the Kadha Films banner: Man in the Orange Jacket (2022), which screened at festivals across the USA and earned multiple awards. In 2023, I followed with Last Day, an independent film made on a shoestring budget with limited equipment and a small crew. It premiered at the 50th Athens International Film and Video Festival, where it received critical recognition.

These experiences taught me an invaluable lesson: to create compelling cinema, two things are essential—a truly engaging story and a passionate crew. Equipment, budget size, and star power all take a backseat to the power of a good story. This understanding reshaped my approach.

In 2025, I directed and produced two new films: Janet and Threads, both exploring the interior lives of marginalized individuals—themes that have become central to Kadha Films' identity. Threads, in particular, examines maternal acceptance and transgender identity through the lens of slow cinema.

Today, Kadha Films has grown beyond a solo venture. We have assembled a dedicated team of passionate technicians who collaborate with us on this journey—cinematographers, sound designers, editors, and production crew who share our commitment to storytelling that matters. Together, we are dedicated to producing low-budget, high-quality human stories from all corners of the world.

Looking ahead to 2026, we are in pre-production on two Malayalam feature films: Puthen Kacheri, directed by K. Rajesh, and Parcel, which I will direct—bringing our storytelling home to Kerala while maintaining our global perspective.

At Kadha Films, we don't wait for permission to tell the stories that matter. We make them.
